What Causes Toenail Fungus
Summer time is here and everyone’s heading to the beach. If you have toenail fungus, it can be really embarrasing to reveal your bare toes. Fortunately, there are remedies available that can treat toenail fungus effectively. I started this website to share some of the products that I’ve found to work.
Toenail infections are most often seen in adults. Toenails are affected more often than fingernails. People who frequent public swimming pools, gyms, or shower rooms and people who perspire a great deal should be on the lookout for these infections. The fungi that cause these infections thrive in warm, moist areas. Other risk factors include wearing closed-toe shoes, getting cuts around your toes and having moist feet all the time.
Nail fungus (also known as onychomycosis) is not the same as athlete’s foot although both may be caused by the same type of fungus. Athlete’s foot affects the skin on your feet and not your nails. Some of the symptoms of a nail fungus infection may include nails which are thickened, brittle with jagged edges, dull looking, distorted in shape or dark colored.
Nail fungus tends to affect the toenails more than fingernails because the feet are often enclosed in shoes and tend to be in a dark and moist environment which can encourage the growth of the fungus.
Seek medical attention if you suspect you have a toenail fungal infection. For people with weakened immune systems, what starts as a nail fungal infection can lead to other complications. If you have diabetes, the blood supply to your feet can become impaired so it is wise to see a doctor immediately.
