Laser Treatment for Toenail Fungus

This NY Times article reports on the use of lasers for the treatment of nail fungus.  The whole idea is to use a laser beam to irradiate the fungus and kill it without hurting the nail and surrounding tissue.  There are already a number of companies who are developing these laser treatments.  One of those companies is Nomir Medical Technologies with their Noveon laser.  Their laser treatment is still under FDA registration trials.

Another company called PathoLase has a system called PinPointe FootLaser.  If these treatments really work, then it would be a valid option for getting treatment for your toenail fungus.  In time, the treatments may become as widespread as LASIK is for the eyes.  However, these treatments are not cheap and may not be covered by your medical insurance.  You’ll want to check with your insurance company before undergoing the treatment.

Has anyone tried these laser treatments for nail fungus? Would you care to share your experience?
